Did you ever have an imaginary friend, someone you played with when you were alone, someone you could tell your deepest secrets to, and they would never betray you? Maybe, you even ran away with this person when you were little. Imaginary friends can be great companions when you are young. Was your imaginary friend an animal, perhaps? Maybe, your imaginary animal friend was actually your spirit animal.
Some cultures believe that everyone has a spirit animal. A spirit animal is an animal that protects you. Many spirit animals are carved into a totem. They can also offer guidance and love during difficult times. If you are missing your spirit animal, try meditation. Your spirit animal will often be revealed to you while you are meditating. Once you have connected with your spirit animal, they will not stray from you. They will be your loyal companion forever.
Nestor thinks he has lost his spirit animal. Listen as he asks Romeo to help him locate the lost animal.

Nestor |
Nestor: Hey, Romeo! I think I met my spirit animal last night.
Romeo: Spirit animal?
Nestor: Yeah. It’s your animal. It protects you. You meet it in meditation.
Romeo: OK.
Nestor: It’s like… a totem! You know, the poles with animals on top.
Romeo: Sure.
Nestor: It’s those guys.
Romeo: And you met one?
Nestor: One, yeah. There’s more, I guess.
Romeo: Oh. OK. So, where did you… where did you meet your spirit animal?
Nestor: I was in meditation, outside, and I was just sitting there, and a stray dog walked by and started barking at me.
Romeo: OK.
Nestor: I think that was my spirit animal.
Romeo: A stray dog is your spirit animal.
Nestor: Yeah, it came to me in meditation.
Romeo: OK.
Nestor: It’s my protector.
Romeo: OK.
Nestor: But it ran away, so I need to find it. Do you want to come help me…
Romeo: Sure.
Nestor: ... find it?
Romeo: Oh, you know what we could do? We could make, like, posters, and we could, like, hang them up, and we could put, like, missing your spirit animal.
Nestor: Yeah!
Romeo: Stray dog.
Nestor: We can draw it. And we can throw garbage outside, and maybe…
Romeo: It’ll…
Nestor: ... we could trap it?
Romeo: ... come to you, right? Or, here, I got a better idea. I’ll push you into the middle of the road, while cars are coming, and maybe, your spirit animal will jump out and protect you?

Nestor tells Romeo that he met his spirit animal last night. Nestor explains to Romeo that your spirit animal protects you. He says he met his spirit animal while he was meditating and a stray dog walked by.
Unfortunately, the stray dog ran away. Nestor wants to find his spirit animal again, so he asks Romeo for help. Romeo suggests that they hang posters up. Or perhaps, they can push Nestor into moving traffic, and his spirit animal will jump out and protect him.
Do you think you have a spirit animal? What kind of animal would you like as your protector?
