Songs You've Heard a Million Times

The number one million can be positive or negative. It would be great to have a million dollars. And it’s exciting that English, baby! now has a million members. But you wouldn’t want to get stung by a million bees, right? And it’s pretty annoying when a song is so overplayed that you feel like you’ve heard it a million times.

Some songs get played over and over again, not just on the radio but also in movies and on commercials. Listen to Jason and Marni talk about overplayed songs.

Jason:  You know, one good thing about having the music industry sort of falling apart and just totally spread out all over the place, with just so many bands, is that I don’t really get played out on songs anymore.

Marni:  That is true. You know, I hadn’t actually thought about that. Songs get so overplayed. But now you have so many options.

Jason:  I mean, there were some a few years ago that I really may have heard a million times.

Marni:  Yeah, definitely.

Jason:  Do you remember that “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” song by Aerosmith? That song?

Marni:  Yes! And it was used in movies and…

Jason:  It was everywhere that summer, whatever it was, like ‘98 or something.

Marni:  Yeah. That song I could do without ever hearing again.

Jason:  Same goes for “Barbie Girl in a Barbie World.”

Marni:  “I’m a Barbie Girl?” Yeah. And there was that Postal Service song that was used in like every commercial for a while. There was like five commercials that were playing at the same time that used the same song, which I thought was so weird.

Jason:  I don’t know why you would do that, you’d think you’d want a commercial to have its own personality and not use something that’s played out.

Marni:  Right, exactly. And you get so sick of that song…

Jason:  I mean I guess maybe they’re thinking it’ll get stuck in your head and then every time you’re singing it to yourself, you’ll think of that commercial that you saw.

Marni:  Right, and you’ll want to go out and buy that product.

Jason:  But mainly it’s just driving me crazy.

Marni:  Right.

Discussion

Jason says that he doesn’t get played out on songs as much as he used to. He thinks this is because there are a lot more bands out there now than there were back in the ‘80s and ‘90s thanks to the Internet.

Some songs get played so much that you feel like you’ve heard them a million times. Popular songs are often used in movies or on commercials, too, so they become even more overplayed. Jason and Marni get really annoyed when they hear the same song over and over again.

Do you ever get played out on songs? Are there any songs you could listen to a million times without getting sick of them?

There are lots of songs I could (and I do) listen to many times. But I usually like to find out new songs (and new artists, instead of listen only what the music industry executives want me to listen), thats why I visit sites which promote new and independent artists.

I've even created a blog to promote this: http://legalandfreemusic.blogspot.com/
Give it a try!

I usually get played out on the songs that overplayed. Eventhough I like a song, I am sick of it when I hear like million times.

In Korea, you can hear the most popular song at that time everywhere like soters and restaurant when you go to downtown. So when you are in downtown for a while the song you hear will stuck on your mind :)

And there is a song I really like and I'm not sick of it I have heard for more than 3 years.

I´ve heard a lot of "catchy songs". I think it´s boring to listen to a song in every place you go or every radio station you tune, but sometimes those songs are a simbol of a time, I mean, They´re too good that people wants to make it be played again and again.

Everything in excess is a thing that drives someone crazy, but music are most likely to cause it eheeh

Britney´s , Madonna´s and Black Eyed Peas´ songs drives me crazy when their songs are in the hot top, but there are a lot of ways to escape of ´em. you just have to look for new bands and get another addiction on another "catchy song", then it´s going to start all over again! :(

I could say that everyone played out on some songs. Things always have two sides. Good songs could be remembered long, some poor songs even get human beings annoyed the first time. Classical songs could last longer, normally, than pop songs.

Another reason you have such a feeling that you have heard some certain songs for one million times is that because the popularity of internet brings good or poor songs onto internet, thus makes it much easier for downloading.

What is “GOOD FROM FAR, AND FAR FROM GOOD”? This is it, I think._

Yeah,I got the played out on songs before, especially in 90s.Like Jason said, maily because there are less bands that period. But now you have so many options, everyday there are like millions of new songs coming out. Thanks to the internet, you can get access to them freely, you can always find the one in your taste.Of course there is no song that you can listen to a million times without getting sick of it.But there are really some classic songs you want to preserve all your life, but you are not going to listen to them a million times, you just listen to them when you are missing the tune of them, that's a good enjoyment
