People live very busy lives. Our days are sometimes full of tiny details that are difficult to remember. Some people have very difficult jobs that require a lot of focus. If you are a detective investigating a series of crimes, you are asked to handle a very large number of details. How will you keep everything straight? Will you be able to remember the important details? Keep in mind, investigating crimes takes lots of time and effort!

Keep in mind is a phrase that means to think about something or remember something. For example, if you are rehearsing a comedy with your scene partner, you should keep in mind that you are supposed to be funny. So, remember to make people laugh! If you are rehearsing a drama, you should keep in mind that there’s no reason to scare people with bad acting.

Andy and Dominique are being good friends and supporting Kelsey at her audition. Watch as Dominique tells Andy to keep this in mind in today’s English lesson.

Andy_H:  And then, I was like, “Keep in mind I’m one of the top detectives in this city.” And then, he was like, “Well, you keep in mind that this city isn’t big enough for more than one top detective, Detective.” And then, I was like, “Well, you keep in mind, Detective, that if this city… this city… can’t handle more than one good detective, well then you’re just going to have to hire me to be some kind of detective/infrastructure manager that can create the city that is big enough to have more than one top detective…

Dominique:  Oh, thank goodness. Andy was just telling me about a series of his dreams. How did it go?

Kelsey:  Actually, I’m not done, yet.

Dominique:  Oh, boy.

Kelsey:  I need some help.

Andy_H:  You got it! What do you need? A scene partner? Is it a comedy? I can do comedy. Or is it a drama? I used to be able to cry on cue… let me show you.

Kelsey:  Andy, stop! It’s a scary movie. I need someone to scare me.

Andy_H:  Oh, OK. I can do that! What… do you need me to jump around a corner and scare you?!

Kelsey:  Yes, that’s exactly what I need.

Andy_H:  You got it! Let’s do this!

Dominique:  Andy! Keep in mind that this is serious for Kelsey. We’re here to help her out!

Andy_H:  For sure! I won’t forget!

Andy is telling Dominique a very long and involved story about being a detective. Dominique seems slightly bored. Kelsey comes out of the audition room. Dominique is very relieved to see her. She tells Kelsey that Andy has been telling her about a series of his dreams.

Kelsey tells her friends that she needs some help. Andy asks her what she needs. He can do comedy, and he can cry on cue. Kelsey says that she just needs someone to jump around a corner and scare her. Dominique tells Andy to keep in mind that they are there to help Kelsey out. So, don’t goof off, Andy!

When is the last time you almost forgot something important? Did you have a friend help you keep it in mind?

I forget things all the time, especially the plans I make for days or weeks later, so I write notes and set reminders to help me keep in mind the things I may forget.
