In my country new year (we call it Nowrooz) starts on March 21. We have some special customs.

I'm gonna write them here for you:

one of our customs , I like it much, called"Charshambesoori", is on the evening of the last Teausday of year ( it is before Nowrooz).people clean their houses and buy new cloth to get ready for Nowrooz celeberation. In evening Children and sometimes adults go door to door and ask for candy or something,it's much similar to Halloween but you don't put on odd cloths or masks, you have to hide after knocking on the door and fasten a small scarf to the knob of the door. Your neighbour pick up the scarf and put something(mostly sweets or candy) in it and leave it at the door step. After a while you can go and take it but be carefull not to be seen. Nowadays in some cities this custom is going to be forgotten. another custom at that night is making fire, dancing around it and jumping through it.we think that fire can pure us. This celebration takes until midnight.

newroz is a holy celebration for kurds and all the old iranian nations, and like always the turks( who came as a barbarian trides from the far east,no a relation to this event or any other of the area) took this event and made it a something to celebrate like they were the heros in this story and every other stories..

it's strange how the fathers of  chauvinism  call others trrorists and criminals??

turks turks...weird amazingly ignore turks.. :)

This jumping over fire thing is also practised in Turkey. It's a widely practised ritual especially on the first week of may. Nowrooz on the other hand is rather celebrated by kurdish population. Kurdish chauvinism attributes a legendary historical meaning to it, denying the notion that it's a celebration for the beginning of spring, with no certain cultural origins...
