It's common in all Muslim's countries to stay awake at night till the sun rise ( we sleep in daylight hours ). Most markets close down during evening prayers and the Iftar meal, but then re-open and stay open for a good part of the night. Muslims can be seen shopping, eating, spending time with their friends and family during the night hours. In many Middle Eastern countries, this can last late into the night, to early morning. However, if they try to attend to business as usual, it can become a time of personal trials, fasting without coffee or water.

Almost all muslims try to give up bad habits during Ramadan , and some try to become better muslims by praying more or reading the holy Quran . Many muslims will attempt to read the whole of the Quran at least once  during the Ramadan period . Many will also attend special services in Mosques during Ramadan which the Quran is read .

Fasting is intended to help teach muslims self-discipline , self-restraint and generosity . it also reminds them of the suffering of the poor , who may rarely get to eat well !

During Ramadan , it's common to have one meal ( known as the Suhoor ) , just before sunrise and another ( known as the Iftar ) directly after sunset !

Because Ramadan is a time to spend with friends and family , the fast will often be broken by different Muslim families coming together to share in an evening meal .

Joy ; I told you this before  !During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.

Dear joy : Before you fast ! you should know something about the 5 pillars of Islam

The most important Muslim practices are the 5 pillars of Islam.

The 5 pillars of Islam are the 5 obligations that every Muslim must satisfy in order to live a good and responsible life according to Islam.

1-      Shahadah: The testimony of faith is saying with conviction, “La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasoolu Allah.”  This saying means “There is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God.”  The first part, “There is no true god but God ( Allah ),” means that none has the right to be worshipped but God ( Allah ) alone, and that God ( Allah ) has neither partner nor son.  This testimony of faith is called the Shahada, a simple formula which should be said with conviction in order to convert to Islam (as explained previously on this page .  The testimony of faith is the most important pillar of Islam.

2-      Salat : ( prayers )  we should pray five times each day

3-  Zakat: paying an alms (or charity) tax to benefit the poor and the needy

4-  Sawm: fasting during the month of Ramadan

5-  Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca.

Joy : welcome to our islamic world !

Some useful words :

Ramadan  : The 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset.

Sawm  : Arabic word that means "fasting".

Suhoor :  The pre-dawn breakfast meal eaten before beginning the daily fast.

Iftar  : The evening meal, taken after sunset to break the daily fast.

Tarawih  : Special prayers offered nightly during Ramadan, in which approximately 1/30th of the Qur'an is recited each night.

Eid al-Fitr  : Festival at the end of Ramadan, in celebration of completing the month of fasting. This takes place on the 1st day of the next month, Shawal.

Muhammad  : A prophet and righteous person, believed by Muslims to be the final messenger of God, whose predecessors are believed to include prophets Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus, among others.

Gabriel  : Muslims believe that among Allah's many creations are Angels. Gabriel is believed to be one of the most important Angels as he was responsible for transmitting Allah's divine revelations to all of the human prophets, ending with Muhammad.

May Allah accept our fasting & our good deeds !

I remember one of its Medical benifits , our bodies can get rid of poisons ( in other word "Purify" ) due the fast ,,
there're a lot of Psychological and Medical benifits, as my brothers and sisters told you ,,

I can remember one of the Social benifits which is in the same time an Aim,

those who fast, when they feel hungry during the fast this will make them remember those who are in need, they'll try the hunger feeling as their poor brothers ... so this will urge them to help people who're in need.

I hope my comment was useful ...

Allah said :And when they  listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger , you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognized . They say: "Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses.

The  benefit of fasting  Ramadan ?

Fasting  offers a time for Muslims to "purify" their bodies as well as their souls, by developing a greater sense of humility, spirituality and community. Ramadan is a very spiritual time for Muslims, and often they invite each other to one another's homes to break the fast and pray together. A greater sense of generosity and forgiveness is also characteristic of this time.

Dear Joy : I'm sorry ! I really didn't mean ! just it was prayer (dua )

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!

Dear Joy : I can't believe this : You are fasting with us !

The  benefit of fasting during the holy month Ramadan ?

Fasting allows one to build a sense of self-control and will power, which can be beneficial throughout life in dealing with temptations and peer-pressure. Through fasting, Muslims learn to control their natural urges such as hunger and thirst, and thus are able to better resist temptations for things that are not necessary, such as drugs or other unhealthy or harmful substances and behaviours.

Dear joy:

Akram Khalid, president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Central Pennsylvania, answered common questions about Ramadan.

What is Ramadan?

There is one full month in every year in which fasting is prescribed for Muslims all over the world. This month is called Ramadan. It begins with the appearance of the new moon and ends with the next appearance of the new moon. As the month is a lunar month, its dates keep changing around the year in relation to the solar months.

What are the timings of a fast?

Fasting begins at the first appearance of dawn and ends with sunset. One is expected to abstain from all food and drink.

What is purpose of fasting?

It is not just physical hunger and thirst that constitute the Muslim fast. The nights prior to the beginning of the fast acquire a far more important character and play a central role in the institution of fasting. The Muslims wake up many hours before dawn for individual prayer and the remembrance of God.

Are there any other restrictions?

Muslims are exhorted from vain talk, sex, quarrels and fights.

What about any charity work?

Muslims are required to redouble their efforts during Ramadan.

Can you work while fasting?

Yes.

Why is it so important for Muslims to observe this month?

Fasting is extremely important because it cultivates the believer in almost every area of his spiritual life. Among other things, he learns about what hunger, poverty, loneliness and discomforts mean to less fortunate people.

Who should fast?

All adult Muslims, male or female. It is not for the sick, the elderly, children, or women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

..........................................

Fasting serves many purposes. While they are hungry and thirsty, Muslims are reminded of the suffering of the poor. Fasting is also an opportunity to practice self-control and to cleanse the body and mind. And in this most sacred month, fasting helps Muslims feel the peace that comes from spiritual devotion as well as kinship with fellow believers.

Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid al-Fitr, which in 2012 occurs on Aug. 19. Literally the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," Eid al-Fitr is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations (the other occurs after the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca). At Eid al-Fitr people dress in their finest clothes, adorn their homes with lights and decorations, give treats to children, and enjoy visits with friends and family.

A sense of generosity and gratitude colors these festivities. Although charity and good deeds are always important in Islam, they have special significance at the end of Ramadan. As the month draws to a close, Muslims are obligated to share their blessings by feeding the poor and making contributions to mosques.
