September 1, 2010

A man is having trouble with his car; it frequently stalls. So he goes to a garage, and asks them to fix it. They replace the transmission and put in new spark plugs. But his car still doesn’t run right, so he takes it to another garage. At this second garage, the mechanic pokes around for ten minutes, then pulls a screwdriver out of his belt and tightens a screw. And now the car runs perfectly. But the man is irate when he gets a bill in the mail for $200. He storms back to the mechanic, and says, “This is outrageous! All you did was tighten a screw, and you ask for $200! I want an itemized bill!” So the mechanic takes out a pad and pencil, and writes down an itemized bill, as follows:

Labor: turning screw $5

Knowing which screw to turn: $195

@monibaca :D I tend to do this sometimes.I also got the point that we need to value knowledge and all, but that still does not mean people should ripoff each other.

@GazaAli hahaha, you are very serious and take it very literal, I liked this story cause it involves two things: it is funny and also a message saying that we need to give worth to knowlegde...I knew the story long time ago but the person was an Engineer, so in this case the message is more clear to understand and  for this reason the price is not too hide, just fair enough for all the knowlegde we (engineers) have hahaha

Yea I know what the mechanic means, but its still a ripoff, 100$ would have been sufficient.

The mechanic is right, it is the expertise that counts. knowing where the problem lays or which things need improvement is the core of every solution. thanks for sharing,
