The German magazine “DeinSpiegel” – the sample from August that is – says that a producer of school bags in this country now makes school bags that shine in the dark due to a solar lamp being attached to the fabric. He realized that many African families were so poor they couldn’t even afford bulbs. Nor can they afford bus tickets for their children who often have a long way to school. Thus these children usually can’t do their homework when they come home after a long school day. His thought behind this was that during the long journey to school and back, the solar lamp would reload and when the child was home at last the school bag could provide it with enough light to do its homework. The producer even donated a few hundred of these bags to poor families. Sadly it’s not a real big enterprise, meaning that he can’t produce too many of his bags.

Côte d’Ivoire has the highest level of biodiversity in West Africa, with over 1200 animal species (232 mammals, 702 birds, 125 reptiles, 38 amphibians and many more insects. However the protection of this area may cause some problems, considering the high corruption in this country.

“http://woundednature.org/support-us/donate/” and “https://online.nwf.org/site/Donation2?df_id=13800&13800.donation=form1” are websites of organisations I consider to be reliable when it comes to protecting natural areas like this one.
