The Tamaraw - A Critically Endangered Bovinae

Here’s the story of another odd-toed ungulate: “Tierschutz Euskirchen” says that a German gentleman won a lawsuit against a German environmentalist organization that half a year ago – also with lawful permission – reintroduced a herd of European buffalos into the wild somewhere in Germany. He managed to convince the judge that these animals could do serious damage to the forests in this area which in return made the judge decide that the whole herd should be caught again and brought back to captivity. Many don’t understand this judge as this was the first herd of buffalos to walk around freely in Germany since this specimen was driven to extinction here in the 16th century. Also they say that forests in Germany have been surviving despite the buffalos doing some damage for millions of years. People are most likely to protest against this decision.

Another critically endangered bovidae, the kouprey, can be found in Southern Laos, Western Vietnam and in the East of Thailand.
