I do think it was! Once you mentioned Dumbo, I seem to recall they were the ones who taught him to fly. I actually haven’t seen the movie in 50 years, but there were scenes that made an impression on me as a child.
Yes, I have heard of the protests against Haiti’s president. Haiti has perhaps the most tragic history in the New World. They have suffered for centuries under brutal rulers and the resulting poverty and oppression.
Many Haitians are descended from slaves of the French colonial rulers. I have never heard of slave owners who were more cruel than the French.
The slaves rose in rebellion and Slave Revolt of 1791 resulted in the Republic of Haiti, the first Republic in the New World founded by black people. I recommend reading their history, Haitian history has impacted North America deeply by the ripple effect. You can imagine how nervous American slaveowners must have been in 1792!

Hey Joe,
say, was the cartoon you mentioned in your comment Disney’s Dumbo? I remember that, too! Also the scene with the smoking crows that at first make fun of Dumbo, but then have a change of heart and help him.
Now to a more serious subject: Have you heard about these violent protests against Haiti’s president that took place in Haiti’s capital this weekend? ‘Tagesschau’ says that on Pentecost one man even was killed.

what a great idea. Back in the 60s there was a cartoon with cigar smoking crows. I think actually seeing a crow with a cigar would make me laugh.
I read about an experiment where people entered and left a hunting blind to test the ability of crows to count. The crows would fly away whenever anyone approached, even if some of the people left. The crows would stay away even when five people entered and only four left, but would return when all five had left. The crows seemed to lost track at six though, and would return when only five people had left. Smart birds.
Crows have juju, maybe that’s why they are so smart.
Crows are Passeriformes though, not Accipitriformes. They are more closely related to magpies and jays. (beaks and feet are the most obvious differences)
Bird watching is a hobby of mine, yes, another nerd hobby of mine.

The German monthly newspaper ‘GEO’ says that the French adventure park ‘Puy de Fou’ now uses tame crows to clean its pavements off cigars and other waste. So far it works perfectly. It seems that the crows were intelligent enough to be taught what they should pick up and throw into a bin and what not. Just shows the intelligence of most raptors and scavenging birds!

‘Tagesschau’ says that the president of Haiti Lafontant now abdicated after constant criticism, threats, a nearing impeachment and even some deaths during demonstrations against him. Reason is that he gave in to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and raised the price of gasoline.
