At my college currently the following video goes viral:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W438LXQoCyM
It is a video about animals who due to the ice got stuck to whatever they currently were standing, sitting or lying on.
>For example this video shows the rescue of a sparrow:
While pouring warm water over its feet probably would have freed the bird, it would have gotten the bird’s wet feed frozen afterwards.
Thus the person in this video held the frightened animal tight to prevent it from flying away before blowing some warm air towards its feet, melting the ice away and eventually freeing the bird.
>It also shows the rescue of a street cat which received heavy criticism for what I said earlier about warm water:
To free the cat they poured warm water over its paws and did not dry them afterwards. However the video does not show what happened to the cat afterwards.

“NABU” states that the ortolan bunting a bird that feeds on seed and beetles only – and by doing so not only helps new trees or bushes to grow, but also to fend off all the diseases some of these beetles would give to the trees – is under a strict protection law of the EU. Despite this fact poachers in France manage to capture and sell approximately 10.000 of them per year. Poachers earn about 15,00€ per captured bird when they sell it to Bordeaux where the meat of these creatures is considered delicious. The birds themselves die by drowning after being force-fed for weeks.

The nature-preservation organization “NABU” now published some photos to prove that they found out that Malta violates some EU-laws concerning the protection of wild animals. Each year a high number of songbirds die getting caught and killed by private people because these animals are considered as delicious over there. However it can’t be controlled how they kill these songbirds, so “NABU” states that many of the birds they saw felt pain during their slaughter. For example they got hit in the head, drowned and suffocated.

“NABU” made a new record. According to their homepage their petition against the excessive hunting of songbirds in Egypt and the fact that the government there doesn’t do anything about it received 115.000 signatures – which they handed over to the Egyptian ambassador in Germany.

The latest example of “Christ in der Gegenwart” contained an article about songbirds that now are heading towards the South. The article mainly dealt with their importance to nature and that there still are many secrets scientists haven’t found out about them yet.
