Do you study PHONETICS ?

Hossam_bounab

English is among the easiest languages to learn, yet it it considered among tha hardest in pronunciation, that's why there appeared a new science which is Phonetics, which deals by special symbols for how to pronuounce the letter,in each case you use it.

It helps so much in the right oral expression, check about DANIEL JONES or PETER ROACH,they are considered among the most important schomars in this domain.

yeah,my university offers phonetics classes, and I was taught as well when I was a prep-student…yeah, I know these symbols…they really work! Thanks to my phonetics classes, I take my dictionary out and easily look up how any word is pronunciated in my dictionary in a quick manner…it is much help!!!!

Actually phonetic is a very recommended linguistic branch that an english student should learn, i ve studied this branch in university for two semesters but surprisingly, I still find my pronunciation not as i want it to be …may be because of the limited exposure to english in my society where arabic, tamazight and french are the dominants …and the classrooms remain the only area where one can practice english.

At the first year of education we had practical phonetics. The teacher taught us to read all this signs, to open your mouth , move your jaw properly :D but at the second year, we had theoretical phonetics. We had the greatest teacher ever :) she could maintain our interest even in such boring subject. Because it’s quite boring to learn the theory of english phonetics, and the way of its development

I was introduced to the IPA when I was learning French. American English and British English have their differences, though both share a lot of common sounds. Youtube videos are useful for beginners.

I find Adrian Underwood's and the BBC videos useful.

Hi Aliazer, first tha's a cute child in the picture is it yours ? :)

About phoneics I think in our society it's much hard to pronounce fluently, but it can help so much in understanding and distinguishing what others say.

And teachers also, they play a huge role in student aquisition,I had a great teacher of phonetics :) thanks god :)

Pronunciation and phonetics are connected :) phonetics explains the way the sounds appear , and it also explains the changes of speech . It’s important for linguists
