Dave:  John, you’re going to China this week, aren’t ya?

John:  Yeah, I leave on Thursday. I can’t wait.

Dave:  Yeah? Where are you flying into?

John:  Into Beijing, and then I’m going down to Shanghai.

Dave:  Yeah?

John:  Yeah. I’m hoping not to catch that birdflu, though.

Dave:  Yeah, it’s becoming a big thing, ah, in China. Have they had any cases yet?

John:  They haven’t, ah, said that they have any cases in humans, but they’ve had plenty in birds.

Dave:  No one’s been quarantined yet?

John:  No, not at all. But they’re scared of it becoming a pandemic. You know, it’s supposed to be very, very contagious.

Dave:  Yeah. Are there any signs? What are you supposed to come down with?

John:  I think the sniffles, you know, coughing, sneezing. Just normal stuff.

Dave:  Yeah.

John:  I’m actually bringing some Tamiflu with me.

Dave:  Oh yeah, Tamiflu. That’s, what is that?

John:  That’s that drug that’s, ah, supposed to help it once you, once you get it. I guess that there’s still a fifty percent fatality rate, though, if you catch it.

Dave:  Even with Tamiflu?

John:  I think so.

Dave:  Oh boy.

John:  Yeah, so I’m going to be careful.

Dave:  Well, good luck.

John:  Thanks.

Discussion

The U.S. is stockpiling Tamiflu and other antibiotics in case of a birdflu pandemic. Birdflu has been a problem in SE Asia for a number of years, but now it is starting to spread to countries throughout Asia and Europe. Should people panic? Are you worried?

This birdflu caused our panic in 2008, now H7N9 birdflu again comes. Even not in my city, but we have excluded chickens, ducks from our meals. Flu is now affecting our life beyond our expectation. I wish we could return back the life with clear water, fresh air, green grass and mountains…

I was wondering what could realy be a little troulbe in a big China! It was  a big pleasure to find out about that birdflu!  I effectively hope that birdflu is definitely eradicated in the region!

Very interesting text.

China is a beautifual country.I am very pride to be a Chinese. SARS or Bird flu may have caused a lot of panics but we don’t have to worry about that.In my opinion, people can conquer any disaster. So Welcome to China!
