US Org. Hosts Cancer Meet, Israelis not Welcome
by Maayana MiskinA United States-based organization's conference on breast cancer awareness, to be hosted in Egypt, has been touted by international news networks as an example of “unprecedented cooperation” in the region. However, according to Channel 2 news, the celebration of unity may be premature, as Israeli doctors were told at the last minute that their invitations to participate had been rescinded.

Israeli doctors were invited to the event as well, and several had planned to attend. However, on Sunday night, the doctors received brief notices telling them that they were no longer invited to the conference, by order of Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el-Gabali.The conference will be held in Alexandria, Egypt this week, under the auspices of the American group Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world's largest breast cancer advocacy organization. It is to include meetings between leading researchers from the U.S. and several Mideast countries.

The notices did not include an explanation of Gabali's decision.

Despite the cancellation of the Israeli presence at the event, Egyptian officials continued to praise the event as an example of regional cooperation. “The week's events are a demonstration of the cooperation between countries, governments, civil society, advocates, survivors, and the global community as a whole,” Dr. Mohammed Shaalan of Egypt's Breast Cancer Foundation told Reuters on Monday. “It shows that breast cancer has no boundaries and reveals the beauty of the world's unity in its fight against breast cancer.”

The usual filthy tactics of the Arabs to isolate Israeli participation in anything.

In English we call this: 'cutting off one's nose to spite one's face'

from its creation, Israel doesn't participate in anything in this region.

What logic is this?

You ban a country from participating in anything that you do, then claim it doesn't want to?

Israel and the Arab States are at war and have been at war for the past 60 years. The Arabs have led a boycott against everything Israeli from that time. It goes so far that someone who has visited Israel cannot enter most Arab countries.

Either you're tying to twist things around or you honestly don't know the facts.

- in History, it doesn't exist

Jews have lived in that region for 3 thousand years and you say that in history, they don't exist?

I'll show one of many maps:

- in Education and culture, it's so far from the culture of the region

By having a literate and healthy and prosperous population, sure.

Jokes aside, Israel's Jews have very many simularities with the Arabs in language and culture. Most of Israel's population are all from Arab countries.

Hebrew is a Semitic language.

- in Goegraphy, It has closed bordured with the neighborhood, and there is no contact with people around it

Whose fault is that? Maybe the armed 22 hostile Arab States that have tried to destroy it several times?

“Conclusions, Israel is something strange in this region”

Some conclusion, but it simply isn't backed up by anything.

If the Americans came around and decide to build a large military base, with McDonals, Denny's, strip clubs, only populated by WASP soldiers, you would have a point maybe. That would be a stranger to the region.

By contrast, Israel is the reborn state of the Jews, a people indigenous to the region, with a culture, language and religion indigenous to the region. Over half the Israeli Jewish population are all Jews from Arab countries.

So, no, you're wrong.

Delegation of Israeli doctors to Gaza denied entry

Last update  16:06 08/10/2008

<!- --- Display Advertisement if Exists ---——>A task force of Israeli doctors was banned on Wednesday from entering the Gaza Strip, although their entry has been approved by Israel Defense Forces a few days ago.

The members of the organization Physicians for Human Rights were supposed to offer, over a three-day sojourn, medical services that are unavailable in the besieged territory.

"We were they only hope for 400 Palestinian patients who were supposed to receive treatment, and were fasting since yesterday because of the operation they were supposed to undergo today," said the oncologist Dr. Abed A'baria, on his way home from the Erez Crossing.

"The army told us that we were denied entry for security reasons," he said.

Along with the doctors, a $50,000-worth of medical equipment was also turned away.

The IDF Spokesman Office said they were looking into the matter.

The sixth and largest Physicians for Human Rights delegation to enter Gaza since Israel imposed a blockade on the Strip last year consisted of nine Israeli doctors, including orthopedists, a surgeon, an oncologist, a psychologist and a social worker.

All nine are Israeli Arabs, after the requests of Jewish doctors were immediately rejected by the IDF "on security grounds."

"Since the blockade was imposed, the reach of international medical aid has been very limited," A'baria continued. "Local doctors are not allowed to leave Gaza to attend conferences and further their knowledge. Some patients have been waiting for an operation for over six months."

The head of the Occupied Territories Department at Physicians for Human Rights, Ron Yaron, said that the team intended to treat patients who were denied treatment in Israel by Shin Bet Security Services.

I do not hope that u would repeat ur concern over here. Typical selective concern.

Clearly, these doctor that u commented on, were not being sent for Medical or human concerns but Diplomatic needs. Had Israel so much concerned, why did it halt the medical aid to Gaza despite international opinion?

WHO: Israel turning away sick Gazans, who die in 'avoidable tragedies'

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/970686.html
Israel has turned away more sick Palestinians from Gaza seeking treatment since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip and several have died each month unnecessarily, a United Nations agency said on Tuesday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said Israel denied entry permits to 18.5 percent of patients seeking to leave the Gaza Strip in 2007 versus 10 percent in 2006.

In absolute terms, however, the number of patients from Gaza who were treated in Israel substantially increased, rising from nearly 5,000 in 2006 to 7,000 in 2007.

1,627 Gazan patients saw their requests denied in 2007, as opposed to the aproximate 470 who were denied treatment in 2006, according to WHO figures.

The WHO said the number of applicants and the percentage of those turned away surged after Hamas Islamists seized control of Gaza in June, the crossing to Egypt was closed and Israel tightened restrictions on the territory.

Israel could not provide figures for how many sick Gazans were granted travel permits last year. A senior defence official denied the system caused unnecessary death, but said Israel was wary of would-be suicide bombers using illness as a cover.

Israel last year imposed a blockade on Gaza in response to cross-border rocket fire by militants. International organizations have condemned the measure as collective punishment.

"Even under fire and under threat we still coordinate the health needs of Gaza's population," said Colonel Nir Press, head of Israel's Coordination and Liaison Administration for Gaza.

Shortages of medicine, equipment and trained medics, which local officials blame on Israeli restrictions, mean advanced health care is virtually non-existent in the Gaza Strip.

Thousands of Gazans have been treated over the years in Israel.

The WHO said 32 Gazans died between October 1 and March 2 while waiting for travel permits.

It could not provide comparative figures and said it was hard to measure whether faster treatment would have saved them, characterizing many of the deaths as unnecessary.

"All these tragedies could have been easily avoided," WHO's head of office for the West Bank and Gaza, Ambrogio Manenti, told a news conference. Palestinian medical officials in Gaza say more than 100 Gaza patients have died since June after being denied permits.

Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in 2005 but effectively still controls its borders, in cooperation with Egypt, which administers the Sinai-Gaza border.

Egypt has allowed some Gazans in for treatment, but has agreed with Israel to keep its border largely closed.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson's Office released a statement detailing the humanitarian aid and supplies transferred to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Approximately 138 trucks brought foodstuffs such as meat, wheat and sugar, as well as cleaning products and school books to the coastal strip.

Is that too 'filthy' tactics of Arabs to isolate Israel in WHO.

quikks- Simply ignore this news. Or, Palestinians themselves are responsible for that. And Blah blah blah…..
