Of course I do! She and her father are the masters of Indian music, aren't they?! I love Indian music very much because it is so manifold. Do you know Zakir Hussain and Shakti? Some years ago I have been to a concert with Zakir Hussain, Shakti and John McLaughlin. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to! Smile

Zakir & Shakti?...You must have some Indian connection!  They are the masters but are they known world over?

Traditional music is best represented in folk songs. Simple and touching!  Sometimes one just need proper rhythm of clapping, “Giddha” is one such form of traditional dance of Punjab. One can dance all over the night. “Bhangra” is another such dance- you need “dhol” and some good spirit!

“Qwaali”, a typical song – rhythmic clapping, harmonium, tabla!  Nusrat fateh ali Khan(Pakistan) was the master of Qwaali. One can enjoy it for hours! But you need to know the dialect of course!

If one wants to listen almost all of the traditional instruments together & the prominent “Raagaas”, then “Shabad Gurbaani”. A wonderful composition!

In every December, a festival of classic music- “Harbhalab Fair”-   is arranged at Jalandhar, Punjab!

Do you play any instrument?

Actually I don't have any personal connections to India.  At any time I was in a music store and I found this CD

http://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/images/product/527960_CD_M_F.JPG

and I fell in love with the music for the very first moment.

One of the songs is by Remember Shakti (Lotus Feet). The other day I saw a poster with an ad for a concert of Rember Shakti in one of our local concert halls and I was happy to get a ticket for this great event.

In the west the names of Zakir Hussain, Shakti and John McLaughlin are familiar to my parents' generation who has been interested in world music since youth. My boyfriend's father is musician, too and he is a big fan of all of them!

I have watched giddha, qwaali and shabad gurbaani on youtoube and I like it very much. Smile

I'm a musician myself and I play several instruments like flute, recorder, piano, saxophon and clarinet.

Maybe do you sing?
