Hello,     May I ask a question about “fare”? When we talk about the money that we have to pay for travelling, we would say bus fare, air fare. What about the money we have to pay for food? Can we say food fare? Thank you very much.

Hi! No, we don’t say “food fare.” Usually we talk about a “fare” only for things that require tickets.AmyWink

So if we do not say “food fare”, which word should we use? For example, how should I ask how much I have to pay for each meal in a certain city? Can I say; “What is the usual cost of food in New York?” “This is the money for the cost of food yesterday.”   Thank you very much, and Happy the 4th of July.
