''specific'' and ''specifically''

When native speakers use ’’specific’‘or’‘specifically’‘in their conversation,I can’t seem to catch the sound of its first letter’‘S’’.So these words ’’specific’‘or’‘specifically’‘sound to me like ’’pecific’‘or’‘pecifically’’ every time I hear native speakers use these terms in their conversation. Is this responsible for my ears?Maybe so…

Hi there!

The “s” is not silent in “specific” or “specifically.” However, the “p” is such a strong sound that perhaps it “takes over” for your hearing. But we definitely do pronounce the s! It may just be very quiet.
