Kevin:  I thought it started off really well. I thought the special effects were cool, but the end left me wanting more.

Dave:  Yeah.

Kevin:  Apparently, that’s how the book ends. I haven’t read the book, but apparently that is really how the book ends. It just sort of all, sort of, crumbles, and then, you know, there’s some sort of, there’s a virus, right?

Dave:  Yeah, so that’s how it ends. I just felt, I don’t know, I just didn’t think the movie was done very well. The special effects were great, but the characterization, kind of like a Hollywood…

Kevin:  Yeah.

Dave:  ...plop.

Kevin:  Yeah, a very big Steven Spielberg blockbuster. And, I mean, Tom Cruise, he doesn’t do that much for me anyway, so.

Dave:  But what’s the idea behind the movie, right? Some aliens invade.

Kevin:  It’s, yeah. It’s an alien invasion, um, they takeover, sort of destroying lots of things. I mean, just blasting things apart.

Dave:  Of course.

Kevin:  Um. And so, in that sense, like you said, I mean, the special effects were cool, I mean, very well done.

The movie War of the Worlds is based on the book written by H.G. Wells about an alien invasion of Earth. The story addresses a popular question: Does life exist on other planets?

In 1938, radio producer and writer Orson Welles did a War of the Worlds radio broadcast. Many people listening to the radio program really believed that aliens were invading, and a number of people killed themselves because they did not want to be captured by the aliens.

You can download and listen to the radio broadcast here: War of the Worlds

Do you think there is life on other planets?

I’ve watched the movie, and yes, the ending in deed was quite hanged-up. I’ve expected more. But over-all, the movie was good.
