A few weeks ago, Spider-Man 3, had a record-breaking debut weekend. Millions of people saw it in countries around the world and like the reviewers, some of them liked it and some of them didn’t. The movie features three villains and a love story, which either means it’s a lot of fun or too much.

Listen to Mason and Kevin talk about how they would have preferred a simpler story, but how Kevin thought certain scenes were out of the ordinary for a superhero movie.

Mason

Kevin:  So did you see Spider Man 3 yet?

Mason:  Dude, I saw it on like opening day.

Kevin:  Three hundred million dollars. That was a lot of money for that.

Mason:  Yeah, I feel kinda bad to contribute to it, honestly. I was pretty disappointed.

Kevin:  Did you at least see a matinee, save yourself a few bucks?

Mason:  I did see a matinee. I saw a matinee on a gift card. But I mean, that’s not the point. Even so, I was so looking forward to it and it didn’t deliver.

Kevin:  It’s not that great. I thought 2 was really well done. You know my problem with 3 was there are too many…

Mason:  Too much going on!

Kevin:  Too much going on, too many bad guys, too busy.

Mason:  From, like, the second I saw the first preview, I’m like, “Why? Why are you guys throwing this much stuff in there?”

Kevin:  Yeah. It’s too much.

Mason:  There’s no need for it. Like, any one of those stories would have been a really excellent story to flesh out over a 2-hour movie.

Kevin:  The triangle of bad guys, and the black suit, and…

Mason:  ...and the drama with Mary Jane...

Kevin:  Over the top.

Mason:  But I’m all for unnecessary Stan Lee cameos and Bruce Campbell was like the best 5 minutes of that entire film.

Kevin:  That’s right.

Discussion

Mason says that he saw Spider Man 3 on the day it came out. He saw it in the afternoon so his ticket was a little bit less expensive. He tells Kevin that he was looking forward to the film, but that he was disappointed in it.

Kevin agrees. He says that he thinks Spider-Man 2 was good, but that the new movie has too many characters and stories. Mason says that he could tell that there were too many plots and characters when he first saw a preview for the film. But Mason and Kevin both like the guest appearances by Stan Lee, the guy who first created Spider-Man as a comic book character in the ‘60s, and actor Bruce Campbell.

Who would you like to see hang out with Spidey on camera for a few minutes?
