The lives of men have always revolved around water. There’s a reason most cities are located on a river or lake. Potable water has always been necessary and somewhat hard to find.

But with increasing population and pollution, it is becoming more and more difficult to hydrate mankind. Some experts say that the next world war will be over water. We’re certainly not there yet, but there’s no reason we shouldn’t be more careful with our most important resource.

Marni:  Statistically, a billion people in the world look for clean water every day.

Kevin:  That is amazing.

Marni:  Yeah, and here we are in the United States and we just turn on our tap and we take it for granted.

Kevin:  And we’re watering our lawns…

Marni:  That makes me crazy!

Kevin:  ...which I find really offensive.

Marni:  I do, too. It’s such a waste and I think in this country, in the US, we just really take water for granted. We use it, we waste it and we’re not responsible with it, and, yes we have it…

Kevin:  And yet, every summer, there’s some sort of crisis. Oh, you can’t water your lawns in Seattle, or in Phoenix…

Marni:  Why do we need to water our lawns? It’s just pure vanity. And people who wash their cars obsessively in the driveway.

Kevin:  I used to have a neighbor when I lived in Southeast Portland, and they would wash their cars every other day.

Marni:  Ridiculous!

Kevin:  White cars to boot. They were white! Like, you couldn’t even see the dirt.

Marni:  I just think we’re very spoiled and we really need to think about water long-term.

Discussion

Marni tells Kevin that there are 1 billion people in the world who don’t have regular access to clean water. It’s something that’s easy to forget in a country like the United States where every building has running water, even though, as Kevin points out, there are often water shortages in certain areas of the country.

In fact, it’s so easy to forget that water is precious, that a lot of Americans waste it on things like watering the grass in their yards. Using water in this way makes Marni and Kevin very upset. They also think that Kevin’s former neighbors, who washed their cars every other day, are ridiculous as well. They agree that people need to think about making sure there’s still water for everyone in the future.

How easy is it to get water where you live? Are people careful with water in your town or do they use it on their cars and lawns?

It is rather easy to get water where I live. For example, people can get potable water from springs! I am not sure that people are very careful with water in my town. They not only wash their cars using water, but also they can wash it in a river or in a lake, which leads to a pollution of water….(((((

I totally think it is right time for us to think about water this crisis. For most of us, we take water for granted, as we have it…but I know it is not so granted, in Tibet, the kids there even could not get the potable water, they have to go miles to get some water back, taking a shower is not impossible. I keep seeing a commercial this year for the water crisis, with the subtitle at the end "Do not let the last drop of water is the tear drop of our human beings."

Water is spring of life, and we have to protect it we have to be a hard environmentalist for water. This summer we donn't have any rain in Istanbul from may to the end of the Agust and all barrages was nearly empty government put some rules not to use it unnecessary. If you water your grass, car ect… you will pay penalty…. I guess not just these rainy days there must be some rules how to use water .....I agree the third war will be started for water…..Be happy and healthy,  Zeus:)

We also kinda take water for granted in Korea. But, almost everyone has no lawns in here, we just live in apartments etc, so we don't need to blame watering lawns. I didn't know that there are crisises for water in the US. I think it's very important to have a mind set that not wasting water.

If anybody here understand WATER CYCLE would know that if there is water in someplace there always will be.

For example, water "waste" washing a car, in some way or another it will be vapor, and then it will rain someplace again.

Now, what people must understand about scarcely of water is that: CLIMATE CHANGE. The water cycle is influence by Earth's atmosphere temperature.

What's happen with Earth right now is that temperature is rising which make precipitation more abundant in someplace in scarcely in others.

things always like this, when something you can get easily and right in your hands you wont see how important it is and even dont aware it exists till the day comes it's gone forever and you will finally find out you cant live on without it. yes, water wont disappear today, but we must think about tomorrow, generations, how they live on? and there are many many people have no clean water for dialy life around world, we cant not only take it for granded but also waste it for no reason.we must think about it for long-term

In my opinion, white cars is not obvious when there is some dirt on it because dirt is gray. But it will be easy to find out in a black car because gray dirt is very obvious on black car. If you aren't sure about it, you can check the cars aroud youself.
