Kyle remembers that Migs is about to get older but he’s not sure exactly when. He should remember though, because the 4th of July is a very important day in the U.S. Thinking about the 4th of July makes both Kyle and Migs remember a vacation they took to New York City 8 years ago.

Migs

Kyle:  So Migs, you have a birthday coming up here soon.

Migs:  Yeah dude, it’s July 4th.

Kyle:  That’s right. So how many candles are gonna be on the cake this year?

Migs:  26 big ones, baby! I’m gettin’ old.

Kyle:  Man, you are. So, uh, any big gifts you see coming your way?

Migs:  Well, I don’t know. I really want a plane ticket to New York but I don’t know if that’s gonna happen.

Kyle:  New York. The 4th of July. You can watch 60!

Migs:  No dude, the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. Fireworks are on the 4th.

Kyle:  That’s right. When we graduated from high school we spent the 4th of July in New York.

Migs:  Yeah that’s right. We were on the Staten Island Ferry. We saw the fireworks over the Brooklyn Bridge. That was dope.

Kyle:  That was a great trip. We went to Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, saw all the big sights.

Migs:  Yeah, see. I wanna do all that stuff again. That was great.

Discussion

Kyle and I have been friends for a long time. It sure doesn’t seem like it’s been 8 years since we went to New York together. So much has changed, and yet so much stays the same. Hopefully, we’ll remain friends forever and we’ll continue to remember all the good times we’ve had together. I can’t believe I’m turning 26. I feel like I’m really going to be an adult soon. I’m not happy about that. I want to stay a kid forever… Have a great 4th of July!—Migs
