Hi Friends!
The summer is great for having fun outdoors. There are so many cool things to do, like boating, swimming, hiking and camping. Last summer, John went rafting with a big group of friends. He came back very happy and wanting to go again.
John is currently planning this year’s raft trip. He invited Beth to come along, but she hasn’t made a decision yet. Listen to their conversation to find out more.

John:  So you coming on the rafting trip this year?

Beth:  I think so. Can you tell me more, like, what happens? What do you usually do?

John:  Well, we leave on Friday, and we’ll camp up on the river. And then Saturday morning the boats are delivered and we cruise down the river for a day, camp somewhere, and then we have the final day, and get home Sunday night.

Beth:  So, how many hours are you actually out, uh, on the water?

John:  Probably about six hours each day. ‘Cause you kinda stop along the way and eat lunch, and, and swim and everything like that. It’s really fun.

Beth:  So how many people go?

John:  This year we might have almost 20 people. It should be pretty cool. That means about five boats.

Beth:  Wow! What a blast! And do you have, like, water fights, and stuff like that, and races?

John:  Yeah. It gets pretty serious actually, with people jumping on each other’s boats and throwing ‘em off and stuff, so bring your headgear.

Beth:  How ‘bout the whitewater? Is it just scary, or is it pretty mellow?

John:  It’s a little sketchy at some points, but, um, after a few beers you have all the confidence in the world.

Beth:  I bet.

Discussion

What do you think? Does whitewater rafting sound like fun? If you play it safe, it can be a great time. When the weather heats up, being on the river is a great way to beat the heat. If you get too hot, you can just jump in the river for a refreshing swim.
PLEASE REMEMBER: If you go rafting, you should always wear a life jacket!
Have a great week!
