These days, it seems like a lot of people are obsessed with getting thin. But skinny hasn’t always been considered beautiful. Until recently, the ideal female figure was soft and curvy. And in some cultures, a bit of extra weight is still considered a good thing. But in the US, thin is definitely in, for men and women alike.

With so much pressure to be skinny, some people try to lose weight in extreme ways. But there are safe, healthy ways toget in shape, too. Listen to Devan and Beren talk about different strategies for shaving off those unwanted pounds and for a man’s perspective, take a look at Dale’s blog about losing weight.

Beren:  Do you work out?

Devan:  I do. I try to work out a fair amount. I don’t do it as often as I should. Like some people, you know, exercise several times a week. I don’t even get to the gym every week necessarily. But I try to go as often as I can. Because if you don’t hit the gym, you won’t get toned. And I want to have a toned body.

Beren:  Well, I’m trying to shave off some pounds. I’m trying to figure out the best way to lose weight. But all my friends are into fad dieting, like fasting’s a really big one right now. Like there’s the “Miracle Cleanse.”

Devan:  Yeah, my personal belief is it’s all about everything in moderation. I don’t think any of those fad diets really work. So, it’s all just about getting exercise, eating less. It’s just…Everything’s in moderation, you know? I’m all about just having a healthy lifestyle. Eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of water and hitting the gym. That’s what works for me.

Beren:  Cool. Well, I’ll keep that in mind.

Devan:  Well, good luck getting in shape.

Beren would like to lose a little weight, but she isn’t sure how to do it. Some of her friends have tried to lose a lot of weight quickly by fasting. But Devan thinks that starving yourself in order to lose weight is unhealthy.

For Devan, the best way to get in shape is to eat healthy foods and work out. Some people who fast or try other fad diets, like eating nothing but red meat for every meal, do lose some weight, but quickly gain it back as soon as they go off the diet. Some people can eat whatever they want, never exercise, and still remain thin. But for most of us, staying in shape requires a consistent effort to be healthy.

What do you think is the best way to lose weight? Are people too obsessed with being thin?

I agree about that….to get in shape we must control our behaviour…

For me, when some people get over weight that is because they can't help themself to do not eat…i think…

so if we can control it…and hit the gym of course…I sure that is the best way to getting shape…

Control weight is really my big problemFrown as I'm a person to gain weight easily! Poor me you know, in the past I used to weight at 60 kgs, now my shape is much improved thanks to my moderation of eating and drinking habit, and daily swimming. I think that usually stress at work leads to over-weight easily as we depress and don't feel good about anything around, then we can eat more alot, and lose our control of it, while lack of physical exercises. To have a tuned body means that we have a successful life. Currently, I'm looking for a good gym where I can ensure about my figures

Recently I find it really becomes a big issue in my daily life.Surely like what Devan said it’s about your lifestyle, you have t take care of what and how mauch you eat and do some excercise to refresh you and keep fit.To control your weight,it’s really a opportunity to communicate with your own body,and a rewarding experience.

I agree with Devan, and it´s all about doing in moderation, like eating and working out in moderation to get in shape without injure your health. The best way is making naturally, therefore you can get consistent improvement in your body and in your health

I think the best way to lose weight is to avoid high calories foods and practice sports regularly.

Although I am thin, I would like to lose few kilos. That's because I used to be a little bit thiner half of year ago, and now I don't feel as well as before with my body.

I'm trying to eat  less, but unfortunately it's a problem for me, because i love to eat! So I'm trying to play sports as often as I can (jogging, cycling, dancing etc.)

But I'm lucky that it's not my obsession ;)

Weight is not always the big "villain" but the amount of fat you have inside your body!

People often confuse losing weight with weight loss…Then,losing weight is not mean weight loss,so if you lost 5 kg,it doen't mean that you lost 5 kgs of fat ;)

Evidence that,it doesn't mean a "light" person is "slim"...This person can be light and be "fat"! "why? because your fat percentage is high,so technically this person is fat! Then,girls take care ;)

loss weight, the most effective way is eating less and act less.

The most imprtant is don't eat snacks. Even if you feel like you have to starve to death.

Exercise make fat to muscle.

At one time, i'm eat small meals every day to sustain life.Results, i'm loss 5 kg within one month.haha…
