So, today’s eavesdropping lesson is about growing up. In America, it’s pretty common for people to ask kids what they want to be when they grow up. After a while, people just stop asking you this and you just kind of grow up and become something. Today, we listen as Jen and Steph talk about what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Steph: Ya know when you were a kid. Did you ever wanna be something when you grew up?
Jen: Oh. I totally did. I always had my sights set on being an architect.
Steph: Oh really?
Jen: Yeah.
Steph: That’s kinda cool.
Jen: Yeah.
Steph: Why did you want to be an architect?
Jen: I dunno. I just see big tall buildings. And the more unique, the more, at that time, I just thought they were really cool. What if I could create something like that?
Steph: That’s awesome! So are you an architect now?
Jen: No, I’m not. But I do a lot of drawing on my own time. But I turned down that idea eventually because it was just too structured for the drawing.
Steph: Yeah.
Jen: I like freestyle better now.
Steph: I used to wanna be an architect, too.
Jen: Really?
Steph: Yeah. I saw all the big buildings, especially in Seattle.
Jen: Mmmhmm.
Steph: I loved those.
Jen: They’re nice there.
Steph: Totally.

Deciding on your career is a pretty hard thing to do. What you think you want to do when you’re a kid may not be what you want to do later. And if you like to do something, you might not want to do it for a career. It’s so hard to decide! Is it difficult where you live to decide what you want to do for work? How do you make this decision?
