Teacher's Pet

Date: Dec 06 2004

2. Read and Prepare - Read the introduction and prepare to hear the audio.

The superlative of good is the best. Some students want to be good and some want to be better and others want to be the best.
Trying to be the best student is dangerous though, because sometimes you become a teacher’s pet. A teacher’s pet is a student who is the teacher’s favorite.

Derek:  So, were you ever considered the teacher’s pet?

Steph:  Um, I’m not really sure. Nobody ever accused me of being the teacher’s pet but I was a pretty good student.

Derek:  Well that’s good that you were a good student. But did you kind of kiss up to the teacher?

Steph:  Well, I sat there quietly normally and put my hands up on the desk and listened.

Derek:  That’s almost a teacher’s pet.

Steph:  The teachers did really like me.

Derek:  Yeah. It sounds like you were a pretty likable student.

Steph:  Were you a teacher’s pet?

Derek:  Definitely not. I always sat in the back of classroom and drew pictures.

Steph:  So you were a troublemaker.

Derek:  Not necessarily a troublemaker. Just not really there.

Discussion

It’s a fine line that separates a great student from a teacher’s pet. Sometimes, you don’t even realize that you are a teacher’s pet until someone says something about it.
For example, I was a pretty good student and teachers liked me, but if I did something wrong, I got in trouble. A teacher’s pet doesn’t get in trouble.
Are there teacher’s pets in your classes? Are you a teacher’s pet?

Basically ,Being a teacher’s pet is better than become a foolish student who is disliked by both teachers and students.Sometimes ,teacher’s pet is a hard role, which bring unavoidable troubles or jealous.I have to say some people are born as teacher’s pet.Just imagine,Who doesn’t like a smart, intelligent, active person. So every class may have a teacher’s pet.I’m not a teacher’s pet,But i am a good student.
