So, as you may know, Portland is a hotbed for creative types. We have so many artists and musicians here that you see them everywhere!
Where do the rock stars hang out? They go to local coffee shops and bars and bookstores.
Just walking around the city, you might run into someone you just saw on stage the night before!

Steph: There’s this place that I go and it seems like everyone there is a rock star. It’s so weird.
Derek: Everyone there is a rock star?
Steph: Yeah. It’s like either they’re in smaller bands and they’re on their way up, or, um, they’ve already made it successful.
Derek: That’s pretty cool. I wish I could, uh, meet some rock stars on my own.
Steph: I know. Maybe I’ll take you there one time. It’s so funny cause I hear all these crazy stories.
Derek: I bet you do. Rock stars always have the crazy stories.
Steph: I know. It sounds so exciting though. They go off and they go on tour and they come back and they just, ya know, taunt us with their stories about how they had so much fun.
Derek: It always seems to be the fantasy life that they tell you about.
Steph: I know. I know. I don’t think it could be real. I mean, do you?
Derek: Maybe part of it.

What would you do if you walked into a place and saw someone famous? Would you go and ask them for their autograph? Would you speak to them at all?
A lot of famous people get tired of being in the spotlight all of the time. They just want to hang out with normal people in comfort.
Portland is a great place to hang out because people aren’t really looking for stars here. You can just be normal, play darts and tell everyone interesting stories.
