When the original Sex and the City series played on TV, it broke boundaries by talking about controversial issues in the lives of four professional, single women living in New York City. A decade later, Sex and the City 2, the second movie based on the TV show, has just hit theaters.

The new film has all the same characters in it as the original series. But there have been a lot of changes in the lives of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. All but Samantha are married now, and husbands and babies have replaced work and friendship as the center of these women’s lives.

Find out if Beren and Amy plan to catch up with Carrie and the rest of the gang this summer.

Amy

Beren:  Last fall, I happened to be in New York City, and I wandered onto the set of Sex and the City 2.

Amy:  Wow, really?

Beren:  Yeah. It was crazy. It was cool. Are you a fan?

Amy:  You know, I watched some of the series, like when it was on TV. And it was always fun, you know, to see all the designer clothes and shoes, and like the fashion. It sort of was…had, you know, a bit more of an edge to it when it was a TV show.

Beren:  Did you see the last…the first movie?

Amy:  No, I didn’t see the first movie, and the second movie has been getting really poor reviews.

Beren:  Really?

Amy:  Yeah, but then it seems like some of the reviews are so negative that it almost seems like…like they’ve just decided that they hate these women, and that these women represent something awful in the world, you know?

Beren:  Well, especially now, like during a recession, and they’re going to like Abu Dhabi or wherever they’re going, in their $5,000 outfits.

Amy:  Yeah. It definitely seems like a concept that could just very easily be offensive.

Beren:  Well, especially now, I hadn’t even thought about it, but I guess when the series started that was a good decade ago. Times were a lot different, and like, you know, it was glamorous to be a single woman, live in the city, and spend half your paycheck on a pair of high heels.

Amy:  Right.

Beren:  And now it’s kinda like, nobody has any money and they’re still living in this complete fantasy world.

Beren was recently in New York City and saw the new Sex and the City movie being filmed. Amy was a fan of the original Sex and the City TV series. She enjoyed seeing the designer clothes and shoes. But she doesn’t think the movies are as edgy as the TV show was.

Sex and the City 2 has not gotten very good reviews. Some people have been offended by the extravagant, expensive lifestyles of the characters. The movie seems especially unrealistic because so many people are struggling financially right now.

Are you a fan of the Sex and the City TV show or movies? Do you think marriage and children are more important than having a career?

A disappointment after 6 fantastic seasonsKiss and a great first movie. Clearly the film makers were trying to keep the franchise going for a bit longer but just couldn't keep up the amazing standards that were the showSealed. I still have to say the jokes were funny, the clothes to die for and although the story line had little depth or reality, a fairytale ending for the four unforgettable characters.

I am a big fan of the sex and the sity.  I have wached all the TV series.  I always think if I would live in New York like them, spending a lot of mone for designer's clothes.

Some peples might say they live in a fantacy world, but I enjoy watcing the fantacyworld.  I don't want to see a movie which is focused on ordinary housewives.
