Telling / Asking Someone.

 

We have many situations in our day to day life wherein people ask us to do something. Let’s see these kinds of usages in this context.

 

Tell someone to do something:-

Please tell Sam to clean up his room.

Could you tell Bob to call me?

Tell him not to go.(Negative).

 

Tell someone some information:-

Can you tell them (that) the party starts at eight?

Please tell Mr. Eric (that) I will be late.

Could you tell him (that) I won’t come?

 

Ask someone to do something:-

Please ask Joan to give me a call.

Could you ask Miguel to be here at five?

Please ask your friend to bring my books.

 

Ask someone for some information (Yes/No).

Ask Paula if she is coming to the party.

Could you ask them if they had their lunch?

Please ask her whether she finished the work.

 

Ask someone for some information (WH):-

Ask Connie what she is writing.

Please ask her when she will be here.

Would you ask him what he wants?

Will you ask them how much it costs?

 

Read aloud the following:

Tell him not to use mobile.

Tell your father (that), I’ll come back.

Ask her to eat something.

Ask him whether he knows the answer.

Ask Mr. Jack where he is.
