When it comes to comedy, Will Ferrell doesn’t have to worry about playing second-fiddle to anyone. He’s one of the top comedic actors around today. His movies make millions of dollars and attract huge audiences. People just love to watch his goofy yet lovable characters make outrageous mistakes. And Jason is no exception. Listen to him tell Beren why he can’t wait to see Ferrell’s new movie, The Other Guys.

Jason:  Will Ferrell is my comedic hero.

Beren:  Are you serious?

Jason:  Yeah.

Beren:  Why? I don’t get it, like everybody…He’s funny, don’t get me wrong. I’ve loved him since Saturday Night Live. But his movies, to me, they’re just so predictable. You always know what you’re gonna get.

Jason:  It’s true, you just watch Will Ferrell be absentminded for 90 minutes.

Beren:  And bumbling.

Jason:  But I think that The Other Guys has some different factors in it.

Beren:  Oh, is that his new movie with Mark Wahlberg?

Jason:  Yeah. They play this cop duo, which is sort of second fiddle to this other cop duo played by Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson. And they’re these, you know, really incredible cops who get all the girls and stuff, and then Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are these other cops. The other guys.

Beren:  The other guys, yeah.

Jason:  But they have to, you know, naturally they have to step up and solve some crimes themselves.

Beren:  They have to fill the giant shoes left behind by The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.

Jason:  Yes, exactly.

Beren:  That’s hilarious.

Jason:  I mean, have you ever had to do that, step in where somebody that you look up to, you know, had to take off for some reason, and you had to do it?

Beren:  I have had to last minute fill in for a band that had their drummer quit mid-tour, and that was a little nerve-wracking.

Jason:  How do you do it, how do you rise to that challenge?

Beren:  I don’t…For me, it works the best if you try to not think about how you’re filling in for.

Jason:  Well, Will Ferrel is the master of not thinking about things. So he should do just fine.

Jason tells Beren that he loves Will Ferrell. Beren thinks Will Ferrell is funny, but she finds his movies too predictable. He always plays the same bumbling, absentminded character.

In Ferrell’s new movie, The Other Guys, he and Mark Wahlberg play a cop duo that is always second fiddle to another team of cops. Ferrell and Wahlberg have to prove that they are good enough cops to fill these other cops’ shoes.

Beren knows what it is like to try to fill someone’s shoes. As a drummer, there have been times when she has had to fill in for a missing drummer in another band. She says the best way to deal with the pressure of trying to fill someone else’s shoes is to not think too much about it.

Have you ever had to fill in for somebody? Who are some people in your life whom you look up to?

Once I joined a singing group, but I was not very good at it as other guys were. So, I was kinda a second fiddle. That feeling was not good.
I look up to my parents. They are not wealthy, they are not well educated, but they are good people, and they work hard.

Well, My mom is the one that I look up to.

I'm not sure that I could be a mother like my mom.

But it is pretty hard to express that I how much I admire and love her.
