Steph:  Hey John. Did you read about the hula hoops in the paper this week?

John:  Hula hoops? You mean the thing that you spin around on your waist?

Steph:  Yeah. You can spin it on your waist, on your neck, on your wrists, on your ankles. It doesn’t matter.

John:  I used to do that when I was a little kid. What’s going on with the paper now?

Steph:  Well, they’re coming back into style for adults. Ya know, they’ve always been popular for kids. But now, like, big people are using them.

John:  Seriously?

Steph:  Seriously. They’re great exercise. They can burn like 600 calories an hour.

John:  Just for jiggling your hips back and forth.

Steph:  Yeah. It’s crazy and people are meeting in the park and, like, hula hooping for fun.

John:  Wow. I wanna check that out. So are you into it now?

Steph:  Oh yeah. I’ve been into it for years. I love it.

John:  That’s cool.

Steph:  Yeah. We meet at the park and stuff and hula hoop and it’s fun.

John:  Will you teach me?

Steph:  Uh, I could try. I’ll bring my hula hoop next week.

John:  Ok.

Discussion

The modern hula hoop was invented by a company called Wham-o in 1958. It is a simple round tube that people spin around their bodies.
It’s pretty easy to learn and you can have fun for hours!
Try it sometime. It’s a lot of fun!
