Hi Friends!
Do you work out? Do you like to go to the gym? This week you can listen to John and Miguel while they lift at the gym.
Working out is a popular pastime for many Americans. John and Miguel often go to the gym together after work. Listen to them as they talk and help each other during their workout!

Dialog

1. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

Conversation 1 * | gonna work on today?
Miguel: Uh, today I’m gonna do chest and triceps and legs. How about you?
John: I think I’m gonna do my shoulders and my back.
Conversation 2 _ | initiation fee. How about you?
Miguel: Um, mine’s cheaper than that. It was only nineteen dollars a month but I did have to pay, I think sixty nine dollar initiation. Can you go any time of day, any day of the week?
John: Yeah, mine lets me go anytime.
Miguel: What about… Can you go to all the clubs? Like, can you go to the one Downtown and in Northwest, or just to the one in Northwest?
John: I think I can go to any club, anywhere in the country.
Miguel: That’s cool. I can only go four days a week. I think that’s why my membership is so inexpensive.
Conversation 3 | curls you can do, but I think the best way to get bigger biceps is by doing pull ups.
John: What about using that curled bar over there?
Miguel: Yeah, I like that curled bar too, but I try to isolate my arms because my right arm is much stronger than my left.
Conversation 4 | spot?
Miguel: Yeah. Dude, hold, hold on a second. Let me finish my set.
Conversation 5 |

Discussion

John and Miguel are having a good time working out at the gym together. The conversations they had are typical of what most people talk about when they exercise with a friend. Even though they are each working different muscle groups, they still help spot each other.
Do you go to the gym in your country? Have you ever been to the gym in the United States? What are the differences? If you don’t lift weights, how do you exercise? Come to the Life Goes On Message Board and tell us about your experience!
Have a wonderful week!
