Unless you’re a celebrity who’s into extreme plastic surgery, you only get one face, so you might as well make the most of it, right? That’s what makeup companies want you to believe, anyway.

Makeup has been around for hundreds of years. But it hasn’t always been as popular as it is today. It used to be considered improper for women to wear makeup, unless they were on the stage.

These days, cosmetics are a multi-billion dollar, international industry. Some women wear makeup to enhance their natural beauty, while others like to create more dramatic effects. And then there are those, like Marni, who don’t wear makeup at all. Find out what happens when she goes to Amy for a makeup tutorial.

Marni:  Amy, it occurred to me the other day that I don’t ever wear makeup. And, frankly, I don’t really know how to wear makeup.

Amy:  Really? Well, first of all, Marni, you look fabulous.

Marni:  Oh, please.

Amy:  But you could look even better.

Marni:  You know, I see myself on video sometimes, and I think I look really washed out. So I could use a makeup tutorial. And in that, I always feel like, shouldn’t that be something that was passed down, that sort of, you sit your daughter down and teach her to apply makeup…That never happened in my family.

Amy:  It’s funny, my mom never taught me that kind of stuff either. But I learned from friends or that kind of thing. I mean, I’m not great at it, but I do wear makeup most days. To me it’s like part of my morning ritual, putting on a little makeup.

Marni:  Sure. I just don’t want to look freakish when I wear makeup, and my fear is that it’ll look so caked on.

Amy:  It’s funny with makeup. It’s like, you want it to make it look like you’re not wearing makeup, but you just look really good. I think that’s kind of the ideal, like a subtle, natural beauty.

Marni:  Right. And that’s clearly the fine line that I just don’t know.

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Marni tells Amy she needs a makeup tutorial. She doesn’t often wear makeup because she doesn’t really know how to put it on. She’s afraid that if she tries to wear makeup, she’ll look strange. She’s worried about wearing too much makeup or having it look caked on.
Amy says that the goal of wearing makeup is to make it look natural and subtle. You want to look like yourself…but better. But Marni says that’s a balance she doesn’t know how to strike.

Maybe that’s because nobody ever taught her. Marni says that her mother didn’t show her how to put on makeup. Amy didn’t learn how to wear makeup from her mother, either, but she learned from her friends instead. Now she wears makeup almost every day.

If you’re a woman, do you like to wear makeup? How did you learn how to wear makeup? If you’re a man, do you like it when women wear makeup? How much makeup is too much?

The rule of make up is “Less is More”, just use naturally and be simple and for the last is complete it with our confidence.

I agree with some of you. We live in a society where the most important thing is people’s issue (unfortunately) That’s why women use make up, and that’s why mostly women want to look like perfect..Moreover men expect it from us. It’s hard to find a man who attend to our attributes inside. I’m not feminist just telling the truth.

to my mind wearing make up is not just sth that weomen choose it for themselves..it is acoording to their society too..in a society which a womn is  behaved like a materile and there is materilism point of view towards women ..so wwomen try to make themselves more beutifule to have more fans ..in societies that body is more important than mind and thoughts, heavy make up is more common..

the kind of using cosmetic and do make up depends on the culture of a nation. for exaple in some countries make up is thin but somewhere is tick and heavy. in some places heavy make up is the sign of whores. in some countries only old women do make up. in my country iran women and girl usually do heavy make up, i think it is beacause they are restrict and have to cover their body so it is the only way to pose themselves.

It is nice to me to read this lesson and to get some new words. I often wear makeup, but not too much of it, as I dont want to spoil my skin, and when putting makeup on,  I always try to make it look natural. I dont need any advice on how to wear it, as I have my own preferences.

LESS IS MORE. It is the term of make up, too much is annoying. Some people say if woman don’t want anybody know her, just don’t wear make up and if man don’t want anybody know him, just wear make up, damn true  :p

To me it’s like part of my morning ritual, putting on a little makeup. I want to make it look like I’m not wearing makeup, I just try to enhance my natural beauty: some eye liner, a bit of mascara and some powder is what I need. For special occasions I use eye shadow That’s it. Who taught me? Nobody, just some experiments when a teenager, and observing other girls also helped. Nowadays it’s much easier, we’ve got Youtube tutorials…

I don’t wear makeup every day but I usually do it on workdays and don’t do it on weekends. I let myself have a rest at the end of the week, kind of. I can’t say that my makeup is heavy or caked on. I do my eyes with mascara and lips with lip gloss and sometimes a little cheeks. I don’t remeber who tought me how to color my face. I think it was a little bit from my mom, a lit from friends and some from online tutorials (which are the most helpful asisstants sometimes).

I don’t like when women are so overcolored in the face. You know, real life isn’t a show or a performance. I don’t care other people wearing lots of makeup and don’t mind others’ tastes though.

I’d love to know men’s opinion.

I feel good and confident without make up. friends said that I’m that kind of person who doesn’t need it. if I wear it, make it look subtle and natural. and if it is really much of make up, I look older, it’s annoys me.

When I was a child, I was a “tomboy” (a girl who does lots of sports and other activities that are more typical of boys) so I was never interested in makeup.

Now I only wear some very basic makeup for work, and for special occasions, I put on a little more. But I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup all the time because then if people see you without it, they say, “What’s the matter? Are you sick???” ;)

One reason I love my husband is because he met me without makeup and loves me with or without :)
