You know that slip of paper that you need to get onto an airplane? Not your ticket, but your boarding pass. That’s the document that actually allows you to get on board the plane. Boarding is the process of getting onto a boat, a bus, or a train, too. If you’re on board, you’re secure on the moving vehicle. You may have also seen a sign that was popular in American cars in the 1990s. The signs said “Baby on Board,” to indicate that the car contained an infant.
The phrase on board is used metaphorically, too. If you’re on board with an idea or a plan, that means you agree to go along with it. You can be on board with having fish for dinner, or going to Hawaii for vacation. If you’re on board, you’re willing to go along for the ride.
Fitness expert Jillian Michaels realizes that you can’t help children get healthy on their own. Their parents need to agree with the idea, too. The parents need to be on board.
Are you typically quick to get on board with a new plan or idea, or does it take you awhile to decide?
