Parents are amazing, aren’t they? They give us life. They teach us how to be good people. They feed us and give us a home to live in. We should always be nice and respect our parents. But sometimes, there are parents who don’t give their kids enough space or freedom. These are called helicopter parents.

A helicopter parent watches every little thing his or her kids do, and hovers over them, just like a helicopter. Sometimes, helicopter parents will even go to their son or daughter’s job interview with them, which probably won’t help them get hired! A helicopter parent is better than a parent who doesn’t care about his or her children, but it’s important to let kids do things alone, too.

Actor Matt Damon says that he is overprotective of his kids, but he tries not to be a helicopter parent. He wants to make sure his children are OK, but he knows that they need their space, too.

Do you or anyone you know have helicopter parents? What do they do?

Dear Kotlesya, children  and not quite so  are a constant struggle for a mom . All that a mom want is  to see them safe and healthy. Probably overprotecting them in the long run is  not advisable, some lessons they will have to learn the hard way but ultimately they  will build up confidence in themselves .

OLA, hello. i have been amused by  your story about your mom. Wow, i can picture her hounding you out of town , she  is a helicopter parent indeed.

I googled ” helicopter parent” , why  it is used this expression ?.  I t comes from  the TV news outlets. Whenever there is an important live coverage in the streets , they send a helicopter  to chase down a  a crazy driver   or a run away robber, whatever , interesting.

What a nice phrase “a helicopter parent” ! I have never heard it before. :

I could not miss to read this lesson more carefully.  I am partly a helicopter parent to my kids. I know it is not good but nothing can be done with me.

I am struggling with myself to give my children more space for freedom and privacy.

Maybe my children is too small yet? Maybe when they grow I will give up with my overprotective role?

Time will tell anyway. :)

My pama are not helicopter parents. However, they are sometimes. For example: one my dad said something wrong about me, a good child is never allowed to explain or argue any thing about her actions. His words are always right. Any response will be said as an uneducated, disobedient child, etc. She will never win, just received anger and penalty from his dad. I used to feel very bad about that. Many questions on mind of a teeneger girl. Why and why my parents are not equal to me. How the important of space, freedom and right to disclose, explain and protect herself is? Does him know?

Until now, I am mature, but I haven’t gotten the answer from him. Anyhow, I still always love him and respect him so much. Because I realize that there is some things we should not try to understand them at all. May be it is his character. It probably is the difference of generation, awareness, qualification or any thing …But, there is one thing, above all, I know for sure that is a great love and big sacrifice he spent for me.

My Mom is a helicopter parent. Once I was in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a tree, enjoying the freedom of youth and all that stuff. All of sudden I heard a familiar voice, I nearly fell down from the tree, because only one person calls me that way. Yep, that my Mom. She covered kilometeres going to totally different city, then village, changing 4 kind of transportation just to check out how her daughter is.
