Soft drinks are extremely popular all over the world. Many people drink soft drinks, like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, every day. In fact, it has been reported that in the U.S. 1 out of 4 beverages consumed is a soft drink. (Beverage Marketing)
Some people drink soft drinks because they enjoy the taste, but another major reason for drinking soda is the caffeine. Caffeine is a mild stimulant drug that can give you energy and make you feel more alert.
Building on the popularity of caffeinated drinks like Coke and Pepsi, companies like Red Bull and Monster created energy drinks that contain more caffaine, as well as additional stimulant substances.

Red Bull
Since its introduction in 1995, Red Bull has become the most popular energy drink in the world. 70% of all energy drinks sold are Red Bull or Red Bull Sugar-Free. Of course, it’s still not nearly as popular as Coke, Pepsi or coffee, but it is continuing to gain new drinkers every day. Red Bull contains 80 milligrams of caffeine as well as taurine and B vitamins.
Monster Energy Drink
Monster is much like many of the other energy drinks on the market. It contains caffeine, taurine, ginseng and guarana.
Cricket Cola
Cricket Cola is a new entrant to the soft drink market – and it’s not really an energy drink. However, it is a cola made with green tea, which is a natural stimulant. It is quickly gaining popularity with caffeine lovers across the U.S..

Discussion

Though I do like Red Bull, I usually just stick with coffee or tea if I need a lift during the day. Occasionally, I’ll have a Diet Coke, but I try not to drink too much soda because it’s not a very healthy thing to drink. My favorite time to drink energy drinks is late at night, when the caffeine buzz makes hanging out with friends more fun.
Have a great week!
Your American Friend,
John
