People have differing opinions about public transportation.
Many people prefer to drive because it is faster than taking the bus or the train to their desired destination.
I really like riding public transportation because I always seem to find someone interesting to talk with. It makes me feel part of the community to hop on the bus, say hello to the driver, chat with my fellow passengers and then get off the bus. Plus, I feel that riding public transportation is much more cost-effective than driving. Think of the money you save on gas and parking, not to mention the headache caused by all that gridlock in the morning and evening rush-hours.
Usually these different types of transportation work in conjunction with one another. So, if you buy a bus ticket, you can use it on the train for a certain amount of time or get a transfer from one of various machines.I try to buy a monthly pass every month so that I can feel free to hop on any bus coming by.
In Portland, our public transportation system is a combination of busses, streetcars, and what we call MAX (Metro Area Express). Some cities might have other kinds of transportation like subways or even ferries!
What kinds of transportation methods make up the system in your city?

Discussion

There are many options when it comes to buying bus tickets; you can buy two-hour tickets, an all-day, weekly, monthly or yearly pass. Most schools and universities offer a discount to students for monthly passes. If you came to America, do you think that you would ride the public transportation or would you be more apt to buying a car or a bicycle? What are the pros and cons of each of these modes of transportation?
Good luck! See you on the bus!
Have a super week!
Steph
