Bottom line- The most important thing.

Fatemeh, very good paraphrase with a few corrections. “No need to think about…”

”...so we won’t oppose you on this one.”

Bluesky, excellent paraphrase, just change to ”...so we’ll stop arguing…”

You both are welcome and I’ll prepare the next lesson this week.

Hello dear teacher and everybody๐ŸŒท

Thank you for new lesson.

Ms. Charlotte: Buying this company is a very easy goal for you and no need to think about our profit.

Chairman: It seems you really want to push us to buy this company, so we’ll stop arguing and we will take it easy.

Hello Mr. Alston. Thank you very much for your new lesson ๐Ÿ™
My answer:
Ms. Charlotte: Buying this company is very easy, no need to think for our net profit.
Chairman: It looks like you’re going to force us to buy this company, so we’ll know our enemies and we’ll less demand of you.

Lesson #26 Reading between the lines:

Next board meeting

Ms. Charlotte: Buying this company is low hanging fruit, a no-brainer for our bottom line.

Chairman: It looks like you’re going to shoe-horn this company, so we’ll pick our battles and cut you some slack on this one.

Question: Can you paraphrase this dialogue?

Hello Mr. Alston. Thank you very much ๐Ÿ˜Š
Yes, there is a contradict in this phrase.
An open secret is a fact that should be a secret but a lot of people know about it.
Please forgive me for answering late ๐Ÿ™

Fatemeh, you’re welcome.

No, I mean if it is a secret, it can’t be open, otherwise it’s not a secret, because “open” contradicts secret. That’s why it’s an oxymoron. :)

Excuse me, do you mean how is a secret revealed?

Bingo! Bora and Fatemeh you are both correct. It is an Oxymoron which is a figure of speech where two words contradict each other. In this case, if it is a secret, how can it be open?

Good job, extra credit to you both!

Bora, there is a certain name for this type of phrase. Continue your search for the answer.

Fatemeh, good try. A paradox is a contradictory statement; however, you are getting close. Keep going.

Hello all
Thank you very much Mr. Alston ๐Ÿ™
In my opinion it is a Paradox. Because there is a contradict between “open” and “secret”.
