Baz Luhrmann, director of “Strictly Ballroom” and “Romeo + Juliet” has a new movie out called “Moulin Rouge”. “Moulin Rouge” can be described as an “in your face” type of movie with great visual effects and with the camera looping and whirling through every scene.
Chad and Miguel both went to see this movie. Find out if they dug it.

Dialog

1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.

Chad

Miguel: Hey Chad did you see “Moulin Rouge?”

Chad: Yeah I did. It’s pretty taking back. It’s a pretty visually stimulating movie.

Miguel: Yeah. It’s almost challenging to watch isn’t it?

Chad: Oh totally. My eyes felt like they were getting a work out.

Miguel: (Laughs) Right. Did you like it?

Chad: Yeah. It started off pretty crazy and and different but ended up pretty good ah little love story. My wife liked it.

Miguel: That’s good. It’s is a little bit of a chick flick I think.

Chad: Yeah. Definitely I mean the songs were pretty cool. How they had like Madonna…

Miguel: All those eighties songs like mixed in.

Chad: Yeah.

Miguel: That’s one of the things it was definitely innovative the way they had all that like eighties music even though it was like early ninteen hundreds or something?

Chad: Yeah. Like the under underground world of Paris that they were trying to present on screen.

They did a good job.

Miguel: Well I thought it was definitely a good movie. I’d recommend it to whoever.

Chad: Yeah. It’s very creative and in the end it made you feel good. They got together.

Miguel: Right.

Discussion

“Moulin Rouge” is based upon the story of Orpheus. Orpheus inherited from his mother the power to enchant every living creature with his music. When his love Eurydice was killed, he descended into the Underworld to begged for her return and enchanted Hades, the monarch of the Underworld, with his music. He was allowed to leave with Eurydice, but there was one condition: on his journey, Orpheus must lead Eurydice, but not look back to see if she followed. Just as he reached the entrance to the Upperworld, fear overpowered him and he turned to see if she followed and lost Eurydice forever.
