Migs: Well, you know what? This friend of mine sent me “Beautiful Girls” in the mail. She actually sent it for my birthday, but it just arrived in time for the holiday season.
Zach: So wha… so… so what?
Migs: So what? That’s my favorite holiday movie.
Zach: That’s not a holiday movie.
Migs: It is a holiday movie. The guy goes home for Christmas, right?
Zach: No, he goes home for a high school reunion. It’s not a holiday movie.
Tanis: No, I think he goes home for Christmas. Oh no it is… right.
Zach: No, he goes home for a high school reunion. Remember they’re all…
Migs: But, still there’s snow They’re ice skating. It’s like, it’s a holiday theme, I think.
Zach: Well, it doesn’t matter ‘cause it’s a good movie anyway.
Tanis: Well, I thought that was a good movie, but it did make me a little uncomfortable. His obsession with the young neighbor girl.
Zach: Oh yeah. But, he didn’t do anything. It was just like… um, I don’t know what was that?
Migs: It was flirtation. But, I mean, who could blame him. Natalie Portman’s hot!
Tanis: She was 12!
Migs: Well, that’s a good point. But, still she was a very, um, intriguing 12-year old.
Tanis: I agree.
Migs: And you know “Romeo and Juliet.” Juliet was only, like, 13 or something, right?
Tanis: Yeah, and Romeo was 14, not 24! (laughter)

Discussion
Beautiful Girls (1996) is about a group of 20 somethings at various stages of commitment in their relationships. It is set in a blue-collar town. There are many elements of drama and comedy in the movie. It deals with the question of “Why do we think there is always something better for us out there?” The characters, especially the male ones, can’t appreciate the things they have until it’s too late.
