Tanis

Migs: I almost rented this movie last night called, um, Remember The Titans. Have you seen that?

Tanis: Oh my gosh, yes, I love that movie! I just watched it not that long ago.

Migs: Well I couldn’t tell, it seems like it’s about football, but I couldn’t tell if it was good or not. What’s it really about?

Tanis: It’s about this football coach who, um, well actually I should back up. Basically in the early 1970’s they integrated, um, the first public school system in Virginia and the first high school to be integrated, um, also not only integrated the school but integrated their football team which had never been done before and created all this turmoil in the area. But, it’s basically the story of this football team and particularly the the black coach who ended up kind of taking the place of the white coach who’d been there for a long time.

Migs: So that’s Denzel Washington’s role, as the football coach?

Tanis: Yeah, and he is so good in this movie. I’m not kidding, he is fantastic.

Migs: So it all ends up good or it’s a big struggle, or what’s the sort of moral to the story?

Tanis: It, it’s about, I guess, people learning to work together and, um, care for each other based on who they are, not what they look like, and um, you know, team work and pulling together and believing in each other. It’s really inspirational. I loved it.

I also rented this movie recently and was impressed with Denzel’s performance. From the start of the movie Denzel establishes his character as a strong, honorable man. He never waivers in his beliefs. Because of this he is really easy to admire.
I thought the movie did a good job or portraying the tense racial scene in the 1960’s in America. People were challenged to overcome stereotypes about others and judge people differently. Anytime a person has to change a long held belief, it is a challenge.

the brilliant movie about people … about friendship…. I liked the idea that no matter what color we have only thing what is important is what we have in the heart…. and the finish… so emotive…. I don’t have more words….
