Hey folks..!! i just wanted to share that part of grammar with all of you..
So enjoy it..!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IS LINGUISTIC?
It’s a science that deals with the scientific study of the language.
In this case we need to use the IPA (INTERNATIONAL PHONETIC ALPHABET) and it is popular for transcription by linguists.
WHAT IS LANGUAGE?
It’s a system for the communication of meaning, ideas and thoughts.
EVERY LANGUAGE HAS:
WORDS // SOUNDS // SYMBOLS // SPECIAL MARKS
divorce // [ di’vɔ:s ] // ɔ: // :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOMOPHONES:
It’s a word which is pronounced the same as another word, but which has a different meaning and spelling.
e.g. so [ səʊ ] sew [ səʊ ] & sow [səʊ ]
sun [ sʌn ] & son [ sʌn ]
die [ daI ] & dye [ daI ]
through [ θru: ] & threw [ θru: ]
they’re [ ðer ] their [ ðer ] & there [ ðer ]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOMONYMS:
It’s a word which is spelled the same as another word but it doesn’t have the same meaning.
e.g. close(verb) [ kLoʊs ] & close(noun) [ kloʊs ]
water(verb) [ ‘wɔ:tər ] & water(noun) [ ‘wɔ:tər ]
design(verb) [dI’zaIn ]& design(noun) [ dI’zaIn ]
Here you need to look at the dictionary those words and find the difference between them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOMOGRAPHS:
Words that are spelled the same but have different stress, pronunciation, meaning and function.
e.g. produce(verb) [ prə’du:s ] &
produce(noun) [ ‘prɑdu:s ]
prospect(verb)[ prəs’pekt ]&
prospect (noun) [ ‘prɑspekt ]
If you observe carefully, you will notice that the verbs have the stress in the second syllable and the nouns have the stress in the first syllable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REVIEW:
CLASIFICATION // SPELLING // PRONUNCIATION // MEANING
Homophones // different // same // different
Homonyms // same // same // different
Homographs // same // different // different
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE ACCENT:
1.- Every word has at least one primary stress [‘]
e.g. Tonight [ tə’naIt ]
2.- But some other words may have a secondary stress [ , ]
e.g. Television [ ‘telI,vIʒn ]

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING WITH REGRETS.
SO LOVE THE PEOPLE WHO TREAT U RIGHT, AND FORGET ABOUT THE ONES WHO DONT AND BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING HAPPENDS FOR A REASON. IF U GET A CHANCE; TAKE IT. IF IT CHANGES UR LIFE; LET IT. NOBODY SAID THAT IT'D BE EASY,THEY JUST PROMISED IT'D BE WORTH IT...
