John:   So did you vote yesterday Josh?

Josh:   Yeah I did. Did you?

John:   Yeah. It was kind of a last minute deal though. I guess the polls were closing at eight, and I dropped off my ballot at seven forty-five.

Josh:   You got it in just under the wire!

John:   When did you turn yours in?

Josh:   Oh, I took a long lunch and, and turned it in, uh, on my break. I was kind of mad that some of my friends didn’t vote though.

John:   Yeah, same with me! You know, this was a big race. The governor race was so close!

Josh:   Yeah, and there’s lots of important issues on the ballot too. I guess some people just don’t have their act together.

John:   But, all in all I think we… I think about 52% or 55% of the state voted. That’s pretty good!

Josh:   Yeah, that’s all right. But, it could always be better than that! I vote every time. That’s 100%!

Discussion

Each year American citizens are expected to vote when elections are held in November. This year political elections were especially interesting, as there were quite a few seats in Congress up for grabs that had the potential to shift the balance of power in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
As it turned out, both the House and the Senate are in control of the Republican party following the November 5th election. This is important because the President is also a Republican, which means he should have a much easier time of getting his own policies and initiatives passed into law.
Both John and Josh feel like it is very important to vote, but with only half of the population voting it does not seem that everyone feels that way. I wonder what the results of the last election would have been if every single American citizen voted last week!
Have a great week friends,
Tanis
