Hi everyone. Last week I noticed my driver’s license was torn. Today I decided to get a replacement.
To get a replacement, I needed to go to the DMV. This stands for the “Department of Motor Vehicles.” I wasn’t sure what the procedure was, or how much it would cost so I wasn’t very prepared.
Read on to see what happened!

Dialog

1. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

The DMV opened at 8:00am. I walked in and was told to take a number. I sat down on a chair and waited for my number, 11, to be called.
After about 10 minutes, I heard, “Number 11!” I walked up to the lady and said, “My license is tearing and I need a replacement.” She said, “No problem, that will be $21.00 and we only take cash or checks.” I only had a debit card so she gave me directions to the nearest ATM, which was two blocks away.
I left the DMV and walked to the ATM to get my money. When I came back, I used a pass the woman gave me to go to the front of the line.
When I got there, she asked me the following questions:
“Are you at the same address?”
“Do you still want to be an organ donor?”
“Any other information we need to change, like your height or weight?”
I answered “yes” to the first two, and “no” to the second.
She then asked me to step over to the wall. She pointed a camera at me and told me to smile. She then took my picture for the license.
After waiting another 5 minutes, she called my name and handed me my new license. It’s nice to have a new license, but I think I liked the old picture better!
