Two weeks ago, I was lucky enough to see a fantastic live show. The performer was Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice. He was definitely one of the best musicians I’ve ever seen play live in concert. His energy and charisma was amazing.

Damien Rice’s first album, 0, is quickly gaining popularity in the U.S. because of his incredibly beautiful voice and passionate lyrics. He writes mesmerizing romantic songs that express powerful emotions.
I’ve loved Damien’s music since I bought his CD last year, however, I wasn’t sure what his show was going to be like. The songs on his CD are very spare and mellow and I assumed his performance would be exactly the same way. I was wrong. His concert was a complex mix of quiet delicate sounds and loud explosions of guitar and drums. Sometimes during the show you could hear a pin drop, and other times you couldn’t even hear yourself think.
The mix of sounds made Damien’s live performance even better than I could have imagined. It was truly one of the most impressive performances I’ve ever seen.

Discussion

As I’ve said many times before, I love music. There’s nothing better than seeing a 6465 musician perform live. It’s one of my favorite things to do.
It’s especially fun to see performances in small places where you can get close to the band. Damien Rice played at the Roseland Theater in Portland, and there were probably less than 1,500 people at the show. It was perfect!
Rock on,
Migs
